A Bengaluru woman turned to social media to express her thoughts on burnout and work-life balance after losing her job. Posting on Instagram, Nidhi shared a video describing the emotional toll of prioritising work over personal well-being.
In the video, she stated that losing her job helped her realise that she had become so consumed by meetings, deadlines and her stress level, that she had neglected to take care of herself.

Nidhi said, "I got fired from my job, and the things I realised after are so scary! I treated my job as my entire life. I stopped taking care of myself, I stopped socialising, I stopped going out, I stopped working out, I stopped eating healthy food, and I stopped meeting my friends. My entire world revolved around meetings, deadlines, and just stress. I used to go to my office, I used to come home, and then work again. I bet I'm not the only one living like this. So the question is, do we really want to live a life like this?"
The video, captioned "post job realisations hit you hard", resonated throughout the internet, and it prompted much conversation regarding overwork and the stress of corporate cultures.
Many social media users connected with her situation and also reported that they had felt trapped in jobs with routines dictated by their work. Others stated that losing a job can be painful; however, at times, it allows one to reevaluate his/her priorities and concentrate on more important things than career requirements.
One user, while sharing his thoughts, said, “Same thing happened to me. I have observed, realised and started learning that true living comes through detachment. We must cultivate a steady mind that is not bound by a craving for relationships, wealth, or physical existence. By remaining indifferent to the highs and lows of emotions and situations, we achieve a profound stillness. In this state of being, nothing has the power to cause us pain.”

“Work should be a part of life, not your entire identity,” added another. A user highlighting, Gen Z awareness towards the situation said, “GenZs are coming prepared with this mindset from day 1 of their joining. Millennials just need a mindset reset!”
