Mumbai Indians (MI) could be set for a major squad shake-up ahead of the next Indian Premier League (IPL) season, with reports suggesting that Hardik Pandya’s future with the franchise is under serious doubt.

Will Hardik join RR before IPL 2027?

According to a report by RevSportz, the Mumbai-based franchise are considering parting ways with Hardik after a disappointing IPL 2026 campaign that saw the five-time champions finish ninth on the points table. The franchise’s management is expected to hold an important review meeting next week, where decisions regarding several senior players and members of the coaching staff could be taken.

The report further claims that Hardik’s representatives have already started advanced discussions with the Rajasthan Royals (RR) regarding a possible move.

If the trade goes through, Rajasthan Royals opener Yashasvi Jaiswal could become the Mumbai Indians’ top target. The young left-hander is seen as a long-term investment and a potential successor to Rohit Sharma at the top of the order.

There is also uncertainty surrounding Suryakumar Yadav’s future, with reports suggesting that Mumbai Indians may consider releasing him as part of a wider squad rebuild.

Meanwhile, the franchise is reportedly looking for a new captain who can lead the team for years to come. Tilak Varma has emerged as the leading candidate for the role, especially after recently being named India’s T20I vice-captain.

Hardik Pandya on road to recovery

Notably, Hardik, who missed four matches of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, also missed the three-match ODI series against Afghanistan. He was initially named in the squad but his participation was subject to fitness. The destructive all-rounder also lost his spot from India's ODI squad against England, which is scheduled to start from July 14.

India are scheduled to play a five-match T20I series followed by three ODIs against England and the BCCI has already announced India's squad for the white-ball tour. Shubman Gill will lead the side in ODIs and Shreyas Iyer handed over the captaincy for the shortest format of the game.
