India wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson drew an interesting comparison between cricket and tennis while speaking ahead of Wimbledon. As the world’s top tennis players get ready to compete for the prestigious title at Wimbledon, Samson was asked to compare some of the biggest names in tennis with cricket stars.
Why MS Dhoni compared with Roger Federer?
According to Samson, former India captain MS Dhoni reminds him of Roger Federer because of the calm and effortless way both legends perform at the highest level.
“The Roger Federer of cricket? It has to be MS Dhoni. He is very calm and composed in the way he goes about his business. When he performs, it looks effortless yet very powerful,” Samson told JioStar.

Why Samson compare Kohli with Carlos Alcaraz?
Samson also compared Spanish tennis sensation Carlos Alcaraz to Virat Kohli, highlighting their aggressive approach and explosive style.
“Carlos Alcaraz, on the other hand, is very explosive, much like how Virat bhai started. Maybe Virat Kohli can be compared to Alcaraz. He is very aggressive and full of power and explosiveness.”
Notably, MS Dhoni has already retired from all forms of international cricket, and the veteran wicketkeeper-batter also missed the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 after suffering an injury. On the other hand, Kohli has retired from Tests and T20Is; the chase master's last cricketing outing came in the IPL 2026 final between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Gujarat Titans (GT) at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Kohli, who missed the recently concluded three-match ODI series against Afghanistan due to a hamstring injury, has also been included in India's squad for the upcoming England series. However, his participation will be subject to fitness. India are scheduled to play a three-match ODI series against England which is scheduled to start from July 14.
