The song ‘Sarke Chunar’ from the Hindi version of KD The Devil, featuring Sanjay Dutt and Nora Fatehi, landed in controversy soon after its release due to its bold and suggestive lyrics. After massive trolls and slams, the song was pulled down from YouTube. Now, the song’s lyricist, Raqueeb Alam, has responded to the backlash and clarified his role in the track. Raqueeb has said that he was not the original writer of the song but was asked to translate the song from the Kannada version despite having heavy reservations.

Feeling Disappointed Over Backlash

In an interview with HT City, Raqueeb Alam spoke about his disappointment with being targeted for the song.

He said, “When I was asked to write all this, I did not agree, saying that it would not work, and it would also be censored. They asked me to only literally translate the Kannada version and give it to them; they would then set it to the song’s meter. Words like ‘Ch**sega’, ‘chaa**ga’ are all there in the original version.” He also mentioned that he had declined the opportunity to write the song. He asked, “Why do I have to be associated with this song?”

Raqeeb further said, "When I write good songs, people don’t notice. I have written Chikri Chikri in Hindi for Ram Charan’s upcoming film Peddi. All the songs of Pushpa in Hindi were written by me. I am feeling humiliated because of Sarke Chunar.”

Song Removed And Revised Version Planned

After the backlash, the official version of Sarke Chunar was removed from YouTube. Raqeef claimed that the makers have once again approached him to write a clean version of the lyrics. He confirmed that he has already sent in a draft for the clean version quickly, and a new version of the song is being recorded, which is likely to be released along with an apology.

Industry Reacts Strongly To Sarke Chunar Song Lyrics

The controversy has also led to reactions from the film industry itself. Singer Armaan Malik commented on the quality of songwriting in films. Another filmmaker, Onir, raised questions about the priorities of the censor board. The All India Cine Workers Association expressed their concerns regarding the content in the film and advised the CBFC to take necessary action against the content in the film.
