Rahul Roy was believed to have a better future than Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, and Aamir Khan in the past, after the release of Aashiqui. The film, directed by Mahesh Bhatt, also starred Anu Aggarwal. With just one movie, he became an overnight sensation and was dubbed a superstar. But, in a matter of years, his popularity declined to such an extent that he was forced to take part in reality shows and found himself in dire financial circumstances.

What Happened To Rahul Roy?

Rahul Roy debuted in Bollywood with the cult favourite Aashiqui in 1990. Many of his movies were shelved in the middle of the 1990s. He turned down a few additional films that were successful at the box office. Rahul starred in 15 consecutive failures, following Junoon in 1992. His final movie as the lead hero was Afsana Dilwalon Ka, which was released in 2001.

Rahul Roy returned in 2006, only to produce five more failures, following a break.

Rahul Roy took part in the first season of Bigg Boss. However, he was unable to revive his career even after winning the competition.

Rahul Roy Failed To Pay His Medical Bills

Rahul Roy was admitted to the hospital in 2020 after having a heart attack and stroke. The actor needed numerous expensive medical procedures and was largely paralysed. In a 2023 interview with Bollywood Hungama, he disclosed that his former co-actor Salman Khan saved him after he ran out of money to cover his medical expenses.

Rahul Roy Lip Syncing At Weddings

Rahul Roy showed up as a guest at the wedding of the niece of renowned Bihar math teacher RK Srivastava in November 2025. The actor performed for the family rather than merely having a casual get-together. He was seen lip-syncing to the hit song, Saanson Ki Zaroorat Hai Jaise from the film, while holding a guitar and channelling his trademark Aashiqui persona.

Rahul Roy was wearing denim jeans and a cream-colored T-shirt. In the well-known 1990 movie Aashiqui, he portrayed the main character. He last appeared in a supporting role in Kanu Behl's film Agra in 2023.
