Satya Nadella, Microsoft CEO wished Adobe Ltd CEO Shantanu Narayen well with this news of his stepping down. Both tech titans also share a common history -- they had studied together at Hyderabad Public School (HPS), Begumpet, India. Nadella commended Narayen’s leadership and the difference he made at Adobe, pointing to how the company grew in economic impact and reach over his time there into leveraging video through AI, cloud computing and more sectors of global software.
Satya Nadella Congratulates Shantanu Narayen
In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), Satya Nadella commended Narayen’s leadership and described his time at Adobe as remarkable.
"Congrats, Shantanu, on a legendary run at Adobe! You’ve built one of the most important software companies in the world and expanded what’s possible for creators, entrepreneurs, and brands everywhere,” Nadella wrote in the post.
Nadella said when Narayen took over, Adobe’s position in the global software market was significantly strengthened and both creators and businesses had been empowered with advanced digital tools.
“What has always stood out to me is the empathy you’ve brought to the creative process and the example you’ve set as a leader,” Nadella wrote. He also acknowledged Narayen’s guidance and personal support over the years.
“Grateful for your friendship, mentorship, and for all you’ve done for Adobe and for our industry,” Nadella concluded in the post.
Shantanu Narayen Announces Exit From Adobe
Earlier today, Shantanu Narayen announced that he will step down as CEO of Adobe after a long tenure leading the company. During his leadership, Adobe strengthened its position in creative software and expanded its cloud-based services.

Adobe Begins CEO Succession Process
Adobe’s Board of Directors has initiated the process of identifying Narayen’s successor. Frank Calderoni, Lead Independent Director of Adobe, has been appointed as Chair of a special committee that will evaluate both internal and external candidates for the role.
In an email to Adobe employees, Narayen wrote:
“I want to share with all of you that I have informed the Board of my decision to transition from my role as CEO of Adobe after over 18 years in the job (and the earnings call that I am about to conduct will be my 100th at the greatest company on the planet." Over the coming months, I will be working with Frank Calderoni, our lead Director, and the Board of Directors to identify my successor and to ensure a smooth transition. I will stay on as Chair of the Board to support the next CEO just as John and Chuck did when I took on this role.”
