RAM Shortage Causes GPU Price Hike: The RAM and Storage Drive shortage that is hitting at the Global level is now even affecting other components. As per recent reports, GPUs, SSDs, and Storage drives are starting to face impacts of the shortage. As per the recent reports, the products listed in online and offline stores have witnessed a sharp rise in the last couple of months. The price hike is pointing to the RAM shortage due to the usage of memory components and NAND chips in them. As of now the scarcity mostly affects the consumer market, with recently launched devices seeing a higher price gap when compared to their predecessors.
GPU and SSDs Price Hike on the way
As per the reports from Ars Technica, the GPU and Storage drives have already started to see a price hike. Concerns arose last week after Asus, Nvidia's largest Add-in Board (AIB) maker, told TechSpot that the GeForce RTX 5070 Ti was deemed "end-of-life" due to supply shortages.
ASUS's move, according to Andrew Cunningham from Ars Technica, made sense given that RTX 5070 Ti uses the same 16GB GDDR7 RAM and a custom, partially disabled Nvidia GB203 chip, which is also in the more expensive RTX 5080.
The RTX 5070 can be purchased for $570 in the US, making it around Rs. 51,000. But it used to be sold at $549 (around Rs. 49,900). Similarly, AMD's Radeon RX 9070 XT, which originally sold for $599 making it around Rs. 54,430, is currently available for approximately $750 (around Rs. 68,150).

If we look closely, the price hike is not as much as RAM price hikes, like doubling or tripling the price. The price hike was noted within the last 30 days, as per reports.
SSDs are going for even worse. As reported, a 1TB M.2 SSD from any well-known company can be bought for $150, making it around Rs. 13,600. If we compare a 1TB WD Blue drive, it was priced at $135 (around Rs. 12,270). The 2TB Samsung 990 Evo Plus is currently priced at $440 (around Rs. 39,990), significantly higher than its listed price of $177 (around Rs. 16,100). Furthermore, finding a 4TB drive from major companies is difficult due to either excessive cost or lack of stock.
Final Thoughts
As we now know, the storage and RAM prices are seeing a jump in the market with just one month in of 2026. And as per the reports, experts expect the prices to get significantly impacted the entire year. So we can conclude that the prices are going to go up for all the products using RAM, Storage, Graphics Card, etc. So if you were planning to upgrade this year, and you are not in urgent need of it, we would suggest you wait till the prices are back to normal.
