Gudi Padwa 2026: Rituals
In Maharashtra, the gudi is placed outside the home, and it is kept on a bamboo stick and decorated with silk cloth, copper lotas, neem leaves, and a sugar garland. It is believed that the gudi should be placed on the right side of the home in order to avoid negative energy and welcome happiness and prosperity.
On this day, people clean their houses, make rangoli and wear new clothes. The festival begins with the consumption of a mixture of neem leaves, tamarind and jaggery. Special dishes like shrikhand-puri and puran poli are prepared with great enthusiasm.
