With hundreds of millions of Indians either living with or at risk of diabetes and hypertension, there are significant daily struggles of patients dealing with complications that could have been avoided. These issues lead to higher healthcare expenses, lost productivity, and a huge financial and emotional toll on both patients suffering from such diseases and their loved ones.

Therefore, today on World Health Day 2026, let’s take a look at 6 mindful lifestyle habits that can transform national health.

In an interview with The Daily Jagran, Dr Veekshith Shetty, Consultant – Neurosurgery, Manipal Hospital, Kanakapura Road, shared insights about how small lifestyle changes can transform national health.

Doctor Shares 6 Mindful Lifestyle Habits To Transform National Health:

1. Daily Walking:

Research has proven that many of these conditions can be effectively managed through minor lifestyle changes. Adding a daily walk of 8,000 to 10,000 steps can bring significant improvement in blood pressure, sugar control, and heart health.

3. Art Of Portion Control

Be mindful of what you eat and opt for better quality options, along with controlled quantity. Improve your diet by adding more fibre, fruits, and vegetables while cutting down on sugar, which can lead to much better metabolic health.

“Can I satisfy my craving with a fruit instead of a packet of chips? Just read the label on any packaged food, and you will be surprised by the amount of added sugar. By making small cuts and better substitutions, one can see real health improvement,” Dr Veekshith Shetty claimed.

4. Proper Sleep And Yoga For Good Mental Health

In today's fast-paced world, mental health often gets overlooked. People can build resilience to stress by aiming for 7 to 8 hours of sleep each night and including mindfulness practices or yoga in their daily routines.
