Sleep is not just about rest; it allows your body and brain to repair, restore, and re-energise, ensuring the smooth functioning of your physical and mental well-being, along with the cognitive function of your body. People often worry about hair fall, hormonal imbalance, or fatigue, but what if you get to know that the real issue is your disturbed sleep? Not because you don’t want to rest, but because your bodies have forgotten how to.
To help you deal with your sleeplessness, in an interview with The Daily Jagran, Ms Stuti Ashok Gupta, Ayurveda Expert and Co-Founder, Amrutam, shared Ayurvedic sleep secrets.
The Ayurveda expert stated, “In Ayurveda, sleep (Nidra) is considered one of the three pillars of health, along with food (Ahara) and lifestyle (Brahmacharya). When sleep is compromised, everything else begins to shift, digestion weakens, hormones fluctuate, and the mind feels constantly on edge.”
“From an Ayurvedic lens, this is often a dosha imbalance. An aggravated Vata shows up as overthinking, light sleep, or waking up between 2 and 4 AM. A Pitta imbalance keeps the mind alert at night, even when the body is tired. And excess Kapha can make you feel heavy, yet not truly rested.” Ms Stuti Ashok Gupta added.
5 Powerful Night Rituals For Deep, Restful Sleep Naturally:
Ms Stuti Ashok Gupta shares simple Ayurvedic rituals that can make a significant difference in the quality of your sleep:
1. Light And Early Dinner
A warm, light dinner that is easy to digest.
2. Keep A Check On Your Screen Time
Reducing screen exposure and harsh lighting post sunset.
3. A Cup Of Haldi Doodh (turmeric milk)
A cup of haldi or nutmeg milk to gently signal the body to slow down.

4. Abhyanga (self-oiling)
And one of the most underrated practices, Abhyanga, or self-oiling, which deeply calms the nervous system.

5. Meditation Or Slow Breathing
Even 5–10 minutes of stillness, through meditation or slow breathing, can help shift the body out of a state of constant alertness.

Lastly, most people don’t have a sleep problem; they have a winding-down problem. We expect the body to switch off instantly, after a full day of stimulation, screens, and stress. Ayurveda approaches sleep differently. It prepares the body for rest.

Therefore, remind yourself that the goal isn’t to ‘force’ sleep. It’s to create a state where sleep can arrive naturally. Especially in Ayurveda, a good sleep isn’t about a quick fix; it’s a reflection of how safely and gently you’ve lived your day.
