Thick smoke was seen rising from behind North Block in New Delhi on Monday, triggering concerns over a possible fire in the area near Parliament. The Department of Fire Services has received a call regarding the incident and is sending six fire tenders to the location. The fire was then promptly extinguished by the authorities without any casualties.

The Delhi Fire Service said some internal dismantling work was underway at the building, which might have led to the fire. The DFS received a call at 11.10 am reporting smoke emanating from the building, following which six fire tenders were dispatched

MP Milind Deora asserted he noticed smoke rising from behind North Block while on the way to parliament. Sharing a post on X, he said, "Noticed thick smoke rising from behind North Block while on my way to Parliament. It appears there may be a fire. Hope everyone is safe and emergency services are responding swiftly," Deora posted on X.

North Block is a key government building in Delhi and houses important offices of the Union government, including the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Finance. The area is part of the Central Vista administrative district, close to Parliament House and other major government establishments.
