BRICS Summit 2026: Delhi is gearing up for the 18th BRICS Summit, which will be held from September 12-13 at Bharat Mandapam. A public holiday has been declared in the capital on Friday, September 11, in preparation for the two-day event. India is hosting the summit under the theme "Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability."

To minimise public inconvenience, the Delhi Traffic Police has released Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) addressing the major travel restrictions. This follows an earlier notification issued on Tuesday detailing the specific traffic arrangements in place across major routes from September 11-13.

Here Are The Top 10 FAQs Answered By The Delhi Traffic Police

1. Will Delhi be shut down during the BRICS Summit?
According to the Delhi Traffic Police, the entire city will not be shut down. Restrictions will apply only to certain notified 'Controlled Areas' and designated VIP routes. Other routes will remain open to the general public as usual, though temporary diversions may occur in some areas.

2. I need to go to the airport. What should I do?
Travellers have been advised to leave for the airport with some extra buffer time. They have been asked to Opt for the Airport Express/Metro, carry flight ticket/booking details and a valid ID and also check the latest traffic advisory.

3. Will Delhi Metro Operate?
Delhi Metro will be operational, while temporary regulations may be in place at certain stations or entry/exit gates due to security requirements. Commuters have been urged to check for the latest Metro updates.

4. Medical Emergency Cases
As per the Delhi Traffic police, medical emergencies will be given priority. Residents must immediately inform the traffic personnel on the spot. If necessary, call 112 or 1095.

5. Will delivery services like Swiggy, Zomato and Blinkit operate?
They may operate in general areas. In controlled or restricted areas, delivery operations may be affected by the restrictions in force.

6. Will DTC/City buses operate?
Yes. However, in affected areas, some routes may be temporarily diverted, curtailed, or regulated. Commuters have been advised to check for the latest route details.

7. Will autos, taxis, and Ola/Uber services operate?
Yes. However, entry or pick-up/drop-off in controlled or restricted areas may be affected.
Allow extra time and ensure pick-up/drop-off takes place at permitted points.

8. For how long will traffic be halted during VIP movement?
There is no fixed duration for this. The duration of traffic regulation will depend on security requirements and the situation on the ground. Traffic will be released in phases as soon as a safe opportunity arises.

9. Will markets remain closed?
There is no general closure of markets across Delhi. However, parking, or traffic movement may be affected in some areas. Residents are advised to check the latest advisory.

10. I need to pick up or drop off a passenger at the railway station/airport. What should I do?
Use only the designated pick-up/drop-off and parking areas. Do not stop your vehicle on the main road especially on security-sensitive stretches to wait for a passenger.

11. What Is Controlled Area?
It is a notified area where security and traffic restrictions will be in force. Entry and vehicle movement here will be regulated in accordance with security arrangements.
