  1. Jan Suraaj won Darbhanga Teachers' MLC constituency.
  2. Prashant Kishor secured Bankipur bypoll victory.
  3. Party now represented in both Bihar assembly houses.

Bihar MLC Election Result: Prashant Kishor, the poll strategist turned politician, was mocked by the political pundits following Jan Suraaj's humiliating defeat in the Bihar assembly election in 2025. The newly formed party, despite a massive digital campaign, failed to even open its account. With uncertainty looming over the party's future, Kishor assured that he will continue his campaign. Within a year, the JSP has found its ground with a representative in both houses of the Bihar assembly.

Jan Suraaj's Victory In MLC Polls

The Prashant Kishor-led party on Tuesday won its first election for the upper house of the state assembly. Jan Suraaj's candidate, Suresh Prasad Rai, registered a victory in the Darbhanga Teachers' constituency. In a tough contest, Rai managed to defeat Congress' Madan Mohan Jha by 324 votes. Apart from this, JSP also performed well and secured the top three spots in the other three seats.

Kishor's Victory In Bankipur

Earlier in August, Prashant Kishor registered a massive victory in Bankipur by defeating the BJP candidate by over 20,000 votes. The victory was considered significant, as Bankipur has been a stronghold of BJP and was earlier represented by current BJP President Nitin Nabin. Despite an aggressive campaign by the saffron party, Kishor won by raising key issues like law and order and unemployment.

What Changed For Jan Suraaj?

While the party kept raising key issues since 2022, the critics claimed that Kishor's decision to not contest the assembly polls harmed Jan Suraaj's chances. Kishor did a course correction by contesting Bankipur bypoll, a decision considered bold as the seat was largely safe for the BJP.

What Next For Kishor, JSP?

With the exit of former Chief Minister Nitish Kumar from active politics in Bihar, Jan Suraaj could increase its presence over the next few years. Apart from this, the vote share of RJD has also taken a hit over the past few polls, giving an opportunity for the rise of a new political outfit. However, the party's next major challenges will be the 2029 Lok Sabha polls and the assembly election in 2030.
