- BMC demolishes 128 luxury flats at Rustomjee Crown.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has launched a demolition drive at Mumbai’s upscale Rustomjee Crown over alleged unauthorised construction involving common areas of the building. The action has drawn attention because several of the apartments are reportedly linked to Maharashtra politicians, senior bureaucrats and prominent business figures.
The demolition drive includes 128 flats due to alleged unauthorised construction involving common and open spaces located around the lifts. According to a complaint, some flat owners allegedly incorporated these shared areas into their apartments, creating additional space in violation of building regulations.
The disputed area is estimated to be worth more than Rs 250 crore. Property in the affected section of the project reportedly commands prices of more than Rs 1 lakh per square foot.
The bulldozera action comes after RTI activist Santosh Daundkar filed a complaint alleging that owners of the 128 flats had occupied common spaces around the lifts. Following the complaint, the BMC assistant commissioner of the G-South ward ordered action against the structures identified as unauthorised, reported NDTV.
Rustomjee Crown comprises three towers, each rising 63 storeys. Two of the three towers have received occupancy certificates from the BMC.
Among the apartments reportedly covered by the civic action is a flat linked to Maharashtra Cabinet Minister Sanjay Rathod and his wife, Sheetal Rathod. The residence of former state minister Deepak Kesarkar is also reportedly among those affected with a monthly rent of Rs 4.20 lakh for the apartment.
Another flat reportedly under scrutiny belongs to Samadhan Sarvankar, the son of MLA Sada Sarvankar.
