The much-awaited biopic on Madhubala is finally moving forward after years of delays. The project has been revived with Sanjay Leela Bhansali joining as producer. As per reports, Dhurandhar actress Sara Arjun has been cast in the lead role, making headlines for this major opportunity. Earlier stalled due to budget issues, the film has now regained pace. It is expected to begin shooting in July 2026 and will likely premiere directly on a streaming platform, bringing the legendary actor’s story to a wider audience.
Madhubala Director And Vision
As per a report by Variety India, the film will be directed by Jasmeet K. Reen, who made her debut with Darlings, featuring Alia Bhatt and Shefali Shah. She has reportedly been working on this project for years before it was temporarily shelved.
Sara Arjun’s Big Opportunity As Madhubala?

According to the same report, Sara Arjun, who gained attention after her role in Dhurandhar, has been cast in the lead. The young actor starred alongside Ranveer Singh in the film directed by Aditya Dhar. The movie performed strongly at the box office and helped Sara earn recognition.

Casting And Earlier Plans
The makers are still finalising actors for two important roles — Dilip Kumar and Kishore Kumar. Earlier, Kiara Advani was approached for the lead role, but things did not move forward.
