Following the back-to-back success of Dhurandhar and Dhurandhar: The Revenge, pan-India powerhouse R. Madhavan has found himself at the center of an unexpected online conversation, this time for his defence acumen. A series of his decade-old posts on X have resurfaced, where the actor shared detailed opinions on fighter jets, particularly advocating for the French-made Rafale.
In one of his tweets from 2011, R. Madhavan wrote, "My strongest recommendation to the Air Force would be to go for the Rafale. Between the F18, F16, Eurofighter Typhoon, Gripen and the Mig 35."

He further added, "The most agile and effortless was the Rafale. Had a very duty-bound tech feel about it. The rockstar is certainly the Su30. We have enough Su30."

Responding to another user, he elaborated, "Eurofighter is very impressive, no doubt. The Rafale is slightly less powered but super agile. The Su30 and Rafale combo is ops."

The resurfaced tweets have sparked widespread admiration online, with many users praising R. Madhavan for his nuanced understanding of defence technology long before such discussions became mainstream on social media. Several users joked that the actor seemed to have been preparing for his role as Ajay Sanyal, for years.
Social media reactions ranged from calling him “defence Twitter before defence Twitter existed” to applauding his foresight and depth of knowledge. Some even humorously linked his past on-screen association with fighter jets to his apparent preference for Rafale.

Before his acting career, Madhavan aspired to join the armed forces and was an active NCC cadet, even training with British military forces, a background that perhaps explains his long-standing interest in defence and aviation. Up next, he is gearing up for a biopic on G. D. Naidu, often referred to as the ‘Edison of India’, where he will be seen in a never-seen-before avatar, further cementing his standing as an actor drawn to portraying real-life maestros and bringing their stories into the spotlight.
