Actor Rajpal Yadav has landed in legal trouble after being sent to Tihar Jail in a Rs 9 crore debt and cheque bounce case. According to ANI, the Delhi High Court reserved its verdict on April 2 after multiple attempts at settlement failed, despite continued intervention. During the hearing, the actor made an emotional plea, but the court, led by Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma, appeared dissatisfied with his inconsistent stance on repayment.
The judge noted that his statements did not align with earlier undertakings, raising concerns over his shifting position in the case. Appearing for the complainant, advocate Avneet Singh Sikka argued that the actor had already accepted his conviction and could not evade liability. He pointed out that the 2024 revision petition came with an unexplained delay of 1894 days and lacked valid grounds.
Sikka further emphasized that serving a sentence does not clear financial dues, adding that despite repeated assurances, the payment remained pending, forcing the complainant to proceed under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act.
During the hearing, the Delhi High Court made efforts to reach a settlement, with the complainant agreeing to accept Rs 6 crore as a full and final amount. However, Rajpal Yadav opposed the proposal, stating he had already faced heavy financial losses. Appearing virtually, he claimed to have sold five flats and paid a significant sum, adding firmly that he was not being emotional and was ready to face jail again if needed.
