Thalapathy Vijay Wins Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections

Vijay won 108 of the 234 seats in the Tamil Nadu Assembly in his first election as TVK chairman. The party finished ahead of the DMK and the AIADMK, which have controlled the state's politics since the 1960s.

Vijay, 51, took the oath of office with his parents, SA Chandrasekhar and Shobha, leading actor Trisha, and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi at Chennai's packed Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.

Veteran leader KA Sengottaiyan, who joined the actor-politician's party after being ousted from the AIADMK, was among the nine TVK politicians who took the oath of office as Vijay's cabinet members. Among others who took the oath with Vijay was Aadhav Arjuna, who is regarded as one of his most reliable strategists.
