Alia Bhatt hosted the Screen Awards 2026 in Mumbai on Sunday, sharing the stage alongside actor Sunil Grover and comedian Zakir Khan. But if social media rumours are any indication, her hosting experience was deemed "cringe." On social media, a number of films of her hosting responsibilities at the awards ceremony have appeared. One of her gigs also mentioned top filmmakers like Aditya Dhar, Mohit Suri, and Sanjay Leela Bhansali.
Alia Bhatt also joked about how much Bollywood has changed between 2019 and 2026 in a video from the award ceremony that went viral. "In 2019, I was doing a Sanjay Leela Bhansali film (Gangubai Kathiawadi). In 2026, I'm again shooting for Sanjay Leela Bhansali's film (Love & War)."
Alia Bhatt added, "In 2019, we watched Mohit Suri's film in cinemas. In 2026, we watched his film (Saiyaara) with a IV."

Alia Bhatt Trolled For Hosting
Social media users were quick to comment on her time as a host after the videos appeared online, and responses flooded in on all Instagram, X (previously Twitter). Some spectators pointed to the audience's subdued responses as a clue that some of her jokes fell flat. Many called the situation 'awkward and embarrassing'.

A user wrote, "This is CRINGE, college fest hosts have better skills." Another user wrote, "She literally dressed up as Ellen and even did the same jokes as her... whoever called her churalia first was truly a visionary... she has copied almost everyone in Bolly so now it's Hollywood's turn." A third user commented, "Rhene do Alia aapse nahi ho paayega. So cringe."

With 14 awards, Aditya Dhar's spy thriller Dhurandhar was the night's biggest winner, while Ranveer Singh won Best Actor. Akshaye Khanna was awarded Best Actor in a Supporting Role (Male) for his portrayal of a gangster in Dhurandhar. Homebound, directed by Neeraj Ghaywan, won the Best Film award at the event.
Alia Bhatt Upcoming Movies
Alia Bhatt will shortly appear in Love and War, directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. The movie also stars Vicky Kaushal and Ranbir Kapoor in addition to Alia. After the 2022 film Gangubai Kathiawadi, for which Alia received a National Award for Best Actress, this is her second project with Bhansali. She is also working on Alpha, a spy thriller, which also stars Sharvari Wagh and Bobby Deol. The movie will be released on July 10.
