The Tamil Nadu Cyber Crime Wing has arrested three more accused in connection with the online leak of Jana Nayagan, intensifying action in a major piracy case. The arrests, made on April 15 after a technical probe, come after the leak surfaced just days before CBFC clearance, taking the total number of arrests in the case to six. The officials noted that the main accused was working as a freelance assistant editor on another project when he allegedly gained unauthorised access to a part of Jana Nayagan movie, according to a report by India Today.
Investigators believe that the accused were involved in copying the film’s reels and processing the footage into a complete version before circulating it further. This initial breach is said to have played a key role in the rapid spread of the film across multiple piracy networks, amplifying the scale of the leak and its impact. Authorities are continuing to examine the technical trail to determine how the content was accessed, compiled and distributed so quickly.
The three accused have since been produced before a court and remanded to judicial custody, as the investigation gathers pace. The development comes shortly after the Madras High Court granted an interim injunction, directing internet service providers and cable operators to refrain from streaming or broadcasting any unauthorised or uncertified versions of the film, in an effort to curb further circulation.
