Kerala School Holiday: The Kerala government has announced a holiday for educational institutions in four districts on Friday, August 7, following heavy rainfall and severe weather warnings issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The decision has been taken to ensure the safety of students, teachers, and staff as intense rain continues across several parts of the state.

The holiday will be observed in Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, and Wayanad. Authorities clarified that while schools, colleges, Anganwadis, tuition centres, and several other educational institutions will remain closed, pre-scheduled public examinations will be conducted as planned.

Pathanamthitta And Kottayam Under Red Alert

The District Collectors of Pathanamthitta and Kottayam declared a holiday after the IMD issued a Red Alert for Thursday, followed by an Orange Alert for Friday. The closure covers educational institutions from Anganwadis to professional colleges. Officials have confirmed that the holiday will not affect previously scheduled public examinations.

Alappuzha Schools Closed Due To Waterlogging And Relief Camps

Heavy rainfall and the inflow of eastern waters have led to widespread waterlogging in several parts of Alappuzha district. With multiple schools functioning as relief camps and rain expected to continue, District Collector Shaji V. Nair ordered the closure of all educational institutions, including professional colleges, Anganwadis and tuition centres. However, public examinations will continue according to schedule.

Wayanad Declares Holiday Following Orange Alert

In Wayanad, the District Collector announced a holiday after the IMD issued an Orange Alert for the district. The closure applies to schools, professional colleges, tuition centres, coaching institutes, special classes and religious educational institutions.

Residential educational institutions are exempt from the holiday, and authorities have instructed institution heads to ensure the safety and welfare of students staying on campus.

IMD Rain Alert Across Kerala

The IMD has issued a Red Alert for Pathanamthitta, Kottayam and Idukki, indicating the likelihood of extremely heavy rainfall.

Meanwhile, Orange Alerts remain in effect for Kollam, Alappuzha and Ernakulam, prompting district administrations to closely monitor the situation and take precautionary measures wherever necessary. Parents and students are advised to follow official district administration updates for any further announcements regarding school operations.
