Kerala School Holiday Today: According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast, several districts in Kerala have been issued orange alerts. These include Thrissur, Pathanamthitta, Kozhikode, Kottayam, Wayanad, Kannur, Kasaragod and Alappuzha. The state may experience thunderstorms and heavy showers of rainfall across many places. Considering IMD alerts and weather conditions, the local administration of prone areas has declared a school holiday today, August 8. The decision has been taken to ensure the safety of students and teaching staff. Residents are advised to follow weather advisories closely and avoid unnecessary travel.
Schools Closed In Thrissur, Pathanamthitta, Kozhikode, Kottayam, Wayanad Today
With the IMD forecasting heavy rain and thunderstorms in many districts of Kerala, local administration has announced blanket closure for Thrissur, Pathanamthitta, Kozhikode, Kottayam, Wayanad, Kannur, Kasaragod and Alappuzha districts. All educational institutions, including schools, colleges and anganwadi centres, will remain closed on August 8, 2026. However, previously scheduled online classes and examinations will take place as decided in the affected districts.
Orange Alert In Many Districts
As per the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod have been under orange alert for August 8, 2026. Possibility of heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms is predicted in these areas. Strong surface winds with speeds are expected to prevail over the state. Fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea during this period.
