Oldest School Board: Chances are, many of us believe that the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is the oldest school board in India. Maybe because it is one of the popular academic boards of India, and it is a central board, which is managed by the Government of India's Ministry of Education. However, reality is far from this popular belief; Uttar Pradesh Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad (UP Board) is the oldest school board in India, which was started in 1921. It was formed during the British colonial rule, under the United Provinces Legislative Council, based in Prayagraj (then-Allahabad).
The UP board was the first board in India to have a structured high school, which includes Class 10 and intermediate, which is today’s Class 12 exams, with a standard syllabus and assessment systems. The UP board was the stepping stone for the secondary education system, which was decades before the national boards were introduced in many Indian states, according to the official website of the CBSE Board.
