Land Of Cows:  The Indian state that was once referred to as the Land of Cows is Goa, and has now been changed into an international beach and party destination. The fertile Konkan scenery made Goa worthy of its pastoral name in ancient times, Gomantak, which translates to Land of Cows. The region was a perfect habitat for cattle rearing and farming activities. At that time, it was governed by different dynasties like the Kadambas, and later, Portuguese colonisers ruled the place for more than 450 years until 1961.

At the time, today’s Goa was characterised by peaceful villages, rice fields, and sacred cowherds instead of tourism. The Indian state of Goa is a legacy that still exists in its countryside, where an old style of farming is still practised through cashew plantations.

In later years, water sports, dolphin viewing, and posh resorts replaced the peaceful fishing villages, and it is now home to white sands, swaying palm trees, and the brightest turquoise waters, attracting tourists from every corner of the world. There are peaceful beaches in the south, and the beaches in the north are full of shacks that serve vindaloo and feni.
