Christmas Song Jingle Bells: The famous Christmas holiday song ‘Jingle Bells’ seems inseparable from the festival. However, not many of us are aware of the fact that this song was originally written for Thanksgiving and not Christmas. The tune of ‘Jingle Bells’ was composed in 1857 by an American composer, James Lord Pierpont, in Savannah, Georgia. When Pierpont wrote this song, it was inspired by sleigh rides in New England, which was a popular activity during Thanksgiving in the 19th century, and that’s why the line is ‘One Horse Open Sleigh’. The title of the song was also originally, ‘One Horse Open Sleigh’.
This song was first introduced at a children's church gathering, during a Thanksgiving performance in the Simpson School. Its energetic lyrics were widely loved, which talked about the fun of winter rides on a one-horse sleigh. At that time, the song had no reference to Christmas, like Santa Claus or a Christmas tree.

The song hailed the joy of harvest season, which is a Thanksgiving tradition and was far from religious overtones and was all about united winter fun. Later, in 1859, Pierpont changed the title of the now-iconic song to ‘Jingle Bells’ and included a chorus to make it even more attractive and fun, according to the History.com.
