Colour With the Longest Wavelength:  Colours are just visual experiences that we experience when light bounces off something, and in this way, we perceive the difference in red, blue or green. The highest wavelength colour is red. It is also known to have longer travel distances with less scattering that occurs when it goes through the air, fog or dust, making it the most visible colour from a distance. The visible light occurs in the wavelength range of 380nm of violet and 750nm of red light in the electromagnetic spectrum. The red light, 620-750 nm, presents the greatest wavelength, and that’s why the red light waves are massive with low energy in comparison to the other colours having a shorter wavelength, such as blue and green.

It is easy to understand why the colour red easily penetrates through the haze and particles as opposed to other colours, given its long wavelength in the visible spectrum. Blue, on the other hand, is shorter in wavelength, which forms more scattering through the Rayleigh scattering, as you may have already observed during a blue sky day.

Comparisons with Other Colours:

Colour  Wavelength (nm)  Visibility from Distance  Key Reason
Red  620-750 Highest  Least scattering, long waves
Green  495-570  High (daytime) Eye sensitivity peak
Blue  450-495  Low  High scattering
Violet  380-450 Lowest  Shortest waves, most scatter

Colour 'Red' is used for warning signals due to its ability to pass through easily. For example, during sunsets, 'red' colours are mostly prominent because of the longer distances that light needs to cover to reach us. Red is also used in air markers, sea markers, and firework displays because of its longest distance visibility.

Additionally, green colour is also useful for visual contrast in daylight conditions; the wavelength advantage of red makes it the best for the longest distance visibility.
