Hardik Pandya is not the only Mumbai Indians (MI) player whose future is attracting attention ahead of the IPL 2027 season. Suryakumar Yadav is also being linked with a possible move, with Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) showing interest in the Indian batter.

According to SportsTak, LSG are apparently eyeing Suryakumar as a leadership option after they parted ways with Rishabh Pant post IPL 2026. The franchise is keen to rope in an experienced player who can strengthen its batting line-up and head the side, reports said.

Lucknow haven’t been as consistent as they would have liked since their IPL debut in 2022. The franchise took a big bet on Pant going into 2025, but it didn't quite pay off. They are now looking at fresh options as they prepare for the next edition.

Suryakumar could fit the bill. He has been one of the most successful T20 batters in recent years and has also led India in the shortest format. His experience at the international level could make him an important addition to the Lucknow squad.

Mumbai Indians don’t want to lose both Hardik and Suryakumar

A possible move to Lucknow could put Mumbai Indians in a tricky situation. SportsTak’s report suggests that the five-time champions are reluctant to let both Hardik and Suryakumar leave ahead of IPL 2027.

Mumbai are reportedly willing to consider Suryakumar’s move to LSG, but there is one condition. The franchise wants Hardik to stay. MI are not keen on losing two of their biggest names in the same transfer window as they look to build their squad for the upcoming season.

With Punjab Kings also reportedly exploring a move for Hardik, Mumbai could have some important decisions to make in the coming weeks.

Suryakumar Yadav’s long association with Mumbai Indians

Suryakumar has been part of Mumbai Indians since 2018, when he returned to the franchise after his stint with Kolkata Knight Riders. Over the years, he has become one of the most important players in the team’s batting line-up.

His ability to play shots all around the ground, find gaps and score quickly has made him a difficult batter to contain. He was also part of Mumbai’s title-winning teams in 2019 and 2020.

His consistent performances in the IPL eventually earned him an India call-up in 2021. Since then, Suryakumar has established himself as one of the leading batters in T20 cricket and has also taken up the responsibility of captaining India in the format.

A move to Lucknow would give LSG an experienced Indian batter who could potentially lead the team as well. For Mumbai, however, letting go of a player who has been such a big part of their success would not be an easy decision.

Neither transfer has been confirmed so far. But with Punjab Kings reportedly interested in Hardik and Lucknow Super Giants keeping an eye on Suryakumar, Mumbai Indians could be heading towards a busy transfer window before IPL 2027.
