A video from a cultural event in Toronto, Canada, has gone viral on social media, sparking a heated online debate. The event showed a large gathering of people celebrating Indian culture with music, dance, and food stalls in a public space.

Toronto Dance Video Goes Viral

The video, shared on X, showed hundreds of people enjoying traditional music, dancing, and taking part in festive activities. The atmosphere appeared lively and colorful, reflecting a cultural celebration organised by the Indian community in Canada. However, the video soon triggered controversy online after a social media post claimed that Canada was becoming “an Indian colony.”

The post, shared by user named Stirile Rezistentei suggested that immigrants were changing the country’s cultural identity. The caption posted along with a video read: “Canada has turned into an Indian colony!!!! Canadians are now a minority in Toronto and the flood of immigrants is larger than ever before. We cannot let this happen to us. Wake up!” This sparked strong reactions from users across platforms.

Viral Video Sparks Debate

Many people criticised the comments, calling them misleading and xenophobic. They defended the Indian diaspora, saying such cultural events represent community bonding and do not harm local traditions. Others also pointed out that immigrants contribute significantly to Canada’s economy and society through work and taxes.

A user wrote, “You are living in Hungary with a Romanian and Russian flag as part of your identity. Indians are not a majority in Toronto. It's probably a gathering in Toronto for some Indian Festival with proper permissions taken. Just showing random videos and blaming India isn't right.” Another user said, " Isn’t Canada built on immigrants? Just like the USA, Australia, and New Zealand? Who are the original people of Canada?"

A third user added, “Canada is country of immigrants. We have Italians, Greeks, Caribbeans, Americans, Spanish, Asians, South Asians..Don’t spread hatred. Municipal authorities/police must act, if nonsense is created by anyone. Only indigenous ppl are real Canadians. Let us work for them support them.”
