- US Department of War releases declassified UAP files.
- Over 170 documents made public via PURSUE.
- The docs include 1947 "flying discs" and Apollo sightings.
The US Department of War on Friday announced the release of newly declassified files on Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP) under a new initiative called PURSUE. The release follows direction from President Donald Trump, aiming to increase transparency by making UAP-related government records accessible to the public.
US Releases Fresh UFO Evidence
In a press release, the officials noted that this is the most extensive declassification effort of its kind, allowing citizens to view videos, photos, and documents without security clearance. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said the files had long been classified and surrounded by speculation, and that their release marks a commitment to openness.

"The Department of War is in lockstep with President Trump to bring unprecedented transparency regarding our government’s understanding of Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena. These files, hidden behind classifications, have long fueled justified speculation and it’s time the American people see it for themselves. This release of declassified documents demonstrates the Trump Administration’s earnest commitment to unprecedented transparency," Hegseth said.
Over 170 Documents Now Public
According to the Department, around 170 documents and images have been declassified. These include a 1947 report on “flying discs,” as well as materials from NASA’s Apollo missions. It also included reports of unusual sightings and bright unidentified objects observed near the Moon during Apollo 17 in 1972.

What's The Motive?
Officials said the release is part of an ongoing process, and more documents may be made public as they are further declassified. “While past administrations sought to discredit or dissuade the American people, President Trump is focused on providing maximum transparency to the public, who can ultimately make up their own minds about the information contained in these files,” the statement noted.
The effort involves multiple agencies, including the White House, ODNI, DOE, AARO, NASA, FBI, and other intelligence bodies. All the documents will be made available on the official site and will continue to be released in phases.Lawmakers and UFO researchers have welcomed the move. However, some critics argue that the timing of the disclosure may also serve to divert attention from other political controversies.
