- MP Jess Asato sues xAI over Grok-generated fake images.
- Lawsuit alleges privacy invasion, misuse of personal data.
- PM Keir Starmer supports legal action against AI abuse.
British Labour Party MP Jess Asato has launched legal action against Elon Musk’s AI company xAI, alleging that its Grok chatbot was used to create fake bikini images of her without her consent. The lawsuit comes amid growing concerns over the misuse of artificial intelligence to generate deepfake content.
UK MP Sues Elon Musk’s xAI
Asato filed the case in London’s High Court on Wednesday, accusing xAI of invading her privacy and misusing her personal data under the UK’s Data Protection Act. According to Asato, the images were generated in January after she publicly spoke out against the rise of deepfake pornography online. She claimed that someone used Grok to alter her photograph and create revealing images that did not exist in reality.
“Nobody would be able to walk up to me in the street and strip me and put me in a bikini, and I don’t see why anybody should be able to do that to me online," Asato said while announcing the lawsuit. Meanwhile, in a post on X, she wrote, “What happened to me was unacceptable - but it’s just the tip of the iceberg. A Jewish woman was put in a bikini in Auschwitz. Women were put in ball-gags for speaking out. Women were covered in imitation semen. And all because xAI did not build Grok with safety in mind.”

PM Starmer Backs Her
She stressed that AI companies should be held responsible for how their tools are designed and used. Asato added that she hopes the case will set an important legal precedent for future victims of AI-generated abuse. United Kingdom Prime Minister Keir Starmer also backed Asato’s legal action, calling the images “disgusting.”
The case is not the first legal challenge involving Grok. Earlier this year, writer Ashley St Clair filed a lawsuit in New York, alleging that the chatbot generated explicit images depicting her, including one in which she appeared underage. So far, xAI has not publicly responded to the lawsuit.
