Nine people were killed and 13 others injured after a middle school student opened fire at a school in Turkey’s southeastern province of Kahramanmaras on Wednesday. The attacker allegedly used his father’s weapon, which was concealed in a backpack, to carry out the shooting.
In a press conference, Turkey's Interior Minister Mustafa Ciftci said that six of the injured are in critical condition and described the attack as a “personal” incident. According to Reuters, the latest attack took place at Ayser Calık Secondary School in Kahramanmars. The shooter also died following the incident.
Teen Attacker Came With 5 Guns
Governor Mukerrem Unluer confirmed the attack, stating a teacher was among those killed. He added that the attacker shot himself but it was not immediately clear whether this was suicide or happened amid the chaos. “An eighth-grade student came with five weapons and seven magazines- which we believe belonged to his father, a former police officer-in his bag. He entered two classrooms with fifth-grade students and caused deaths and injuries indiscriminately,” Unluer said.

According to eyewitnesses, the attacker entered the high school yard and started firing at people randomly.
Later, in a statement, the Turkish interior ministry confirmed that a total of 10 students, four teachers, one police officer and one canteen operator were injured in the incident.
