Amid rising tensions within Iran over the Strait of Hormuz, United States President Donald Trump on Friday said the US Navy is acting like “pirates” in the region. He stated that American forces have been stopping ships and seizing cargo in different waters and described the blockade of Iranian ports as a “very profitable business” for his administration.
Trump Says US Navy Acting Like 'Pirates'
Speaking at an event, Trump explained how US actions are aimed at weakening Iran’s economy. He mentioned that the forces recently took control of a ship, its cargo, and its oil. Trump compared their actions to pirates but said they are serious about it. “It’s a very profitable business. We’re sort of like pirates,” he said.

US Naval Blockade
Washington has been stopping ships coming from Iran, including oil tankers and container ships in Asian waters. The blockade, mainly carried out around important waterways such as the Gulf of Oman, has sharply reduced Iran’s oil exports, which are a key source of its revenue. US officials say this move is part of a wider strategy to limit Iran’s ability to fund activities in the region and to pressure it into negotiations. At the same time, Iran has blocked most ships from passing through the Strait of Hormuz, except its own ships.

Trump Warns Of Possible Disruption To Global Oil Flows
Meanwhile, Trump has warned that tensions near key shipping routes could disrupt global oil supplies, as heavy ship traffic and military activity increase in the region. Speaking at an event in Palm Beach, he highlighted growing congestion around Gulf waters. “You see all of those ships…they're all over the place, hundreds and hundreds of ships,’ Trump said.
Trump stated that many oil tankers are currently stuck and unable to pass through the Strait, leading to a build up of ships waiting to move. He added that some oil shipments are being redirected to locations such as Texas for loading. Despite the disruption, Trump asserted global oil supply remains strong, starting that prices could drop sharply once normal shipping resumes.
