US President Donald Trump on Friday strongly criticised Iran amid ongoing efforts to push forward a draft peace deal between Washington and Tehran. He claimed that Iran carried out a drone attack targetting "Indian" ships near the Strait of Hormuz. Trump called the incident “totally unacceptable” and stated that the attack was “rebuffed”.
His statement comes a day after US Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed recent operations involving Hellfire missiles targetting suspected hostile vessels in the Strait of Hormuz. The US military said it had disabled three commercial vessels in the region as part of ongoing enforcement actions during the week. Notably, two of the targetted ships, MT Settebello and MT Jalveer, carried Indian sailors.
Trump Accuses Iran Of Misrepresenting Deal Terms
In a post on Truth Social, Trump accused Tehran of leaking false details to the media and denying that they match any terms agreed in writing. He said Iran’s public statements about a deal were “weak” and “pathetic,” and claimed they bore no relation to the actual negotiations. Trump further accused Iran of acting in bad faith and said it was difficult to deal with them, alleging a lack of honesty in the process.
Referring to a drone attack targetting Indian ships near Hormuz, Trump warned that such actions must stop immediately and urged swift corrective action. "The terms that Iran leaked out to the Fake News have NOTHING to do with the terms that were agreed to, in writing. What they said, including their weak and pathetic statement on having a deal, bears no relation to the truth. Very dishonorable people to deal with. With them, there is no such thing as dealing in good faith," he wrote.
"AMAZING! Also, their totally rebuffed Drone attack last night against Indian Ships leaving the Hormuz Strait is TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE. They better get their act together, and FAST! President DONALD J. TRUMP," the statement added.
US Envoy Summoned For The Second Time
Earlier in the day, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) once again summoned US Charge d’Affaires Jason Meeks to lodge a formal protest over the continuing attacks on commercial vessels off the coast of Oman. This is the second time the US mission has been summoned by the MEA over the worsening maritime security situation.
According to ANI report, the Ministry conveyed its deep concern over the use of lethal and deadly force against civilian shipping. It said such actions are unacceptable and pose a serious threat to the safety, security, and stability of international maritime trade, especially in a sensitive region during a tense period.
MEA says - The U.S. Chargé d’Affaires, Jason Meeks, was summoned to the Ministry of External Affairs today.
