A disturbing audio clip of Australian truck drivers allegedly making offensive comments against Indians has gone viral on Instagram. The clip has sparked fresh debate over racism faced by Indian-origin truck drivers in Australia’s transport industry.
Shocking Comments Against Indians
The recording was shared by Instagram creator Agi (@babysoftarms). It includes parts of an investigation by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) into racial abuse faced by migrant truck drivers. The audio clip features truckers making hateful remarks instead of discussions about road safety. In the recording, some voices can be heard making violent statements against Indians.

“Kill the Indian. Stand up for a white man. There’s a civil war coming. We’re gonna kill all the male Indians, we’re gonna drown all the kids, and we’re gonna sell all their women into slavery," voices are heard saying in the clip. Several drivers interviewed by ABC also reaffirmed that racism has become a regular experience on Australian roads. They said migrant drivers often face abuse because of their accents.
Racism Against Truck Drivers
One truck driver said, “If the accent is an Aussie accent, that’s acceptable. But if it’s like Punjabi or Indian accent, you will face a lot of abuse." Another driver said he stopped using radio communication because responding to abuse only made things worse. “I did try a couple of times, and I had to face a lot of abuse. So then I stopped using it," he said.
Some Indian-origin drivers said the abuse is not limited to radio conversations and happens in public places as well. One Australian citizen of Indian origin told ABC that he was speaking in Punjabi with his wife while refuelling at a petrol station in South Australia when another man confronted him, saying: “He jumped out and said, ‘This is Australia. Speak English.'"
The driver said the man later returned after paying for fuel and allegedly spat on him before leaving in his truck. “That is one incident which I will never forget because it’s humiliating," he told ABC.
