Pakistan’s DG of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, has drawn criticism after he raised questions about Indian military officers using English during a briefing. His remark came as senior officers from the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force addressed a press conference on the first anniversary of Operation Sindoor on Thursday, May 7, reviewing the operation and its impact.

In a press conference, Chaudhry asked why the Indian officers were speaking in English. He suggested it was meant to project India’s version of events internationally. While he attempted to criticise the Indian Armed Forces, he ended up being trolled on social media for his comments. Interestingly, some Pakistani users also joined in trolling Chaudhry.
Many users pointed out that English is widely used in India’s armed forces as a common communication language due to the country’s linguistic diversity. Former Pakistan Army officer-turned-journalist Major Adil Farooq Raja also called out the comments, saying English is widely used within the Pakistan Army as well, with official instructions issued in the language at all levels.

How Did Netizens React?
Social media reactions across X, Instagram, and Reddit were highly critical, with users accusing the DG ISPR of spreading misleading claims and engaging in propaganda. Some posts mocked his remarks, while others highlighted what they called contradictions in his argument.
A user said, “I think their narrow-mindedness makes them forget that India is a multilingual nation, and not everyone speaks Hindi. English serves as a common link language across the country. Unlike Pakistan, India does not impose Urdu as a national language.” Another user wrote, “English me baat kesy kar diye Indian army, hum Pakistani bhikamangon ko angreji speech kesy samjh aayega.”
