US Fortress Plan: Amid the ongoing conflict with Iran, the United States is preparing for the possibility of a major war that could disrupt essential services at home. The Pentagon is reportedly developing a plan called FORTRESS to ensure that US military bases can continue operating for at least 90 days without outside support, even if power grids fail, supply chains break down or critical infrastructure is damaged.
What's The FORTRESS Plan?
According to documents reviewed by Fox News Digital, under the FORTRESS initiative, major US military installations across the US are required to maintain essential operations independently for at least three months. This would be done by ensuring a steady supply of electricity, water, fuel and communications even if the civilian infrastructure breaks down. By doing so, the plan aims to reduce the military's dependence on public services that could be disrupted during a major conflict.
Independent Power Supply Focused
An important part of the plan is ensuring that military bases can generate and store their own electricity. The proposed measures include small nuclear reactors, large battery storage systems and microgrids that would allow bases to disconnect from the civilian power network during emergencies.

"Power is combat now. Without electricity, you lose communications, water, logistics, assembly lines and just basic military command structures,” Pentagon chief spokesperson Sean Parnell told the news outlet. Moreover, the Pentagon is also preparing for possible disruptions to global trade and supply routes.
Critical Reserves
Under the FORTRESS plan, the military would maintain reserves of ammunition, fuel, critical minerals, electronic components, spare parts, and medical supplies. The storage amount would depend on how quickly each item is used and how much time it takes to replace it. Another part of the plan involves preparing commercial factories to manufacture defence equipment during a crisis.
Through the Civil Reserve Manufacturing Network, the Pentagon is aiming to identify businesses that could switch to military production when needed. Additionally, the US aims to strengthen military communications, navigation, and satellite systems against disruption. Overall, Parnell described FORTRESS as an insurance policy for America that will help its forces continue operating during a prolonged conflict.
