Amid the break in peace talks, reports have emerged that Iran has delivered a new proposal for talks with the United States through Pakistan, which is ating as a mediator in the ongoing diplomatic process. The development comes after Trump had rejected the previous offer by Tehran to end the ongoing conflict, maintaining that a naval blockade on Iranian ports will continue.

Tehran Sends New Proposal To US via Pakistan

According to state media outlet IRNA, the latest negotiating text was handed over to Pakistan on Thursday evening. However, no further details of the proposal have been shared. A statement by the news agency read, “The Islamic Republic of Iran delivered the text of its latest negotiating proposal to Pakistan, as the mediator in talks with the United States, on Thursday evening.”

Iran-US Talks To Restart?

If the reports are true, this would be considered a significant step toward reaching a broader agreement after failed talks in Pakistan. Earlier on Thursday, Trump had remarked that Iran was “dying” to make a deal. He claimed that Tehran had been significantly weakened and was eager to negotiate. However, Trump reiterated that Tehran “cannot be nuclear.” Trump said, “Iran is dying to make a deal... their Navy is gone, their Air Force is gone, and every ounce of any form of equipment practically is gone.”

Despite Pakistan’s effort as a mediator, a deal has not yet been reached between Tehran and Washington. One of the main reasons behind limited progress in the negotiations is a dispute over Iran’s nuclear programme and control over the Strait of Hormuz, which continue to remain the main sticking points in the talks.

While there were high hopes that a second round of talks would take place in Islamabad, Tehran refused to have direct contact with the US delegation. As a result, the planned visit of US envoys involving Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner was cancelled by Trump.
