A wedding celebration in southern Iran had turned into a scene of horror after a missile strike hit homes where hundreds of people had gathered on Wednesday. Five people were killed and at least 60 others were injured in the attack in Kuhestak, a village in Hormozgan province near the Strait of Hormuz. As the families bear loss, some wedding guests have recounted the horror of that day.

Missile Strike Hits Wedding Celebration

According to reports, around 350 people had gathered for the wedding of Maryam Mallahi on Tuesday night when explosions struck. One projectile reportedly struck the roof of a house, creating a crater around 1.5 metres deep on the floor. Another hit a date palm, triggering panic as wedding guests began screaming and running in different directions.

'That Sound Follows Me', Says Wedding Guest

Zeinab Mallahi, who was among the wedding guests, recalled hearing women celebrating moments before the roof and walls of the house collapsed. “I still hear the voices of the women who were ululating, and then suddenly the roof of the living room and the walls came down on us. That sound follows me from night into day and from day into night,” she told Drop Site News.

“It was something I had only seen in movies. I had never seen a missile. I had never seen shrapnel. I didn’t understand what was happening,” Mallahi added. The bride's father, Ali Mallahi also recalled the incident, stating that he initially thought that a gas cylinder had exploded. But when he reached the other house, he saw people running in different directions.

Several Children Injured

According to residents, shoes were scattered across the ground, while children were injured. Suleiman Zakiri Fard, a resident, told Iran's WANA news agency, “There was dust and smoke everywhere. Someone was shouting, someone was screaming. People were coming out one by one, some with blood all over their faces.”

A vendor, Sasan Zarei, called the incident deeply disturbing. “We rushed to help and recovered people and stuff from under the rubble. Most of the injured were kids. The scenes were very heartbreaking. The shoes had been scattered everywhere. One of the kids had their lungs torn out. They are now hospitalized,” Zarei told AP.

Meanwhile, Axios reported that the US Central Command (CENTCOM) is conducting an internal review of the civilian casualty incident. During a White House press briefing on Thursday, US Vice President JD Vance said he had no new information about the incident, while stressing that the US “never targets civilians.
