- US intel links Iran tensions to Trump assassination attempt.
- Suspect Cole Allen had multiple social, political grievances.
- DHS report circulated among federal, local agencies.
A new US intelligence assessment has added fresh perspective to the ongoing investigation into the attempted assassination of President Donald Trump at a White House Correspondents’ Dinner event last month. The report states that the ongoing tensions involving Iran “may have contributed” to his decision to carry out the attack.
Iran War Angle Emerges
According to a preliminary report by the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the suspect, Cole Tomas Allen, may have been influenced by multiple social and political factors including the ongoing US-Iran conflict. The report, dated April 27 and shared with law enforcement agencies, said Allen had multiple social and political grievances, Reuters reported.
What US Intel Said
Investigators noted that while Allen’s exact motive is still being examined, the Iran conflict “may have contributed” to his decision to carry out the attempted attack. The assessment also referenced social media posts in which Allen criticised US actions related to the war.
The DHS report, described as a “Critical Incident Note,” has been circulated among federal and local agencies and obtained through public records requests. However, officials from the DHS, the Department of Justice, and the FBI have not provided detailed comments on the findings.
Earlier court documents suggested that Allen opposed Trump’s political positions and wanted to “fight back” against government policies he considered unacceptable. Prosecutors say he expressed anger toward the administration in messages sent before the attack, but Trump was not directly named.

An assassination attempt targeting Trump and senior officials during a White House Correspondents’ Dinner event was foiled on April 25. Authorities have so far released limited details about the suspect’s motivation.
US Releases Footage Of Gunfire Exchange
Earlier on May 1, US federal prosecutors had released surveillance footage showing Alle breaching security checkpoints and opening fire as he moved toward the ballroom where Trump was seated.
According to top federal prosecutor Jeanine Pirro, the footage supported the prosecution’s claim that Allen fired at the officer during an attempted attack on the president, dismissing speculation about friendly fire. The material has already been submitted in court proceedings.
