Iran-US Tensions: Iran on Saturday said it has prepared an "extensive" response plan in case the United States or Israel attacks its infrastructure. The threat comes after US President Donald Trump warned that Washington would continue military action against Tehran until it can no longer threaten American forces or develop a nuclear weapon.
Iran Prepares Response Plan
According to Iran's semi-official Tasnim news agency, Iran has prepared an "extensive" plan to respond if the US or Israel attacks its infrastructure. Tasnim quoted a senior security official as saying the plan was made after recent US media reports claimed that the US and Israel could carry out strikes on Iranian infrastructure. As per the report, Iran's response would include targeting important Israeli infrastructure and US energy infrastructure in the West Asia region.
Has Trump Ordered A Fresh Attack?
The Wall Street Journal reported on Friday, quoting US officials, that Trump "has ordered the military to launch a fresh attack on Iran that could begin as soon as this weekend and last a few days." Earlier in the day, speaking after chairing the first live televised Cabinet meeting ever held at Camp David, Trump said the US would continue military action against Iran until Tehran could no longer threaten American forces or develop nukes.
He also said he was becoming less confident that talks with Iran would succeed. When asked what people should expect in the coming weeks, Trump said, "Well, we'll be hitting, we'll be hitting them very hard and, you know, at some point they're going to say, we just can't take it anymore." Trump repeated that stopping Iran from getting a nuclear weapon remains the main goal of the US.

"They cannot have a nuclear weapon. Iran will not have a nuclear weapon, and they can't have a nuclear weapon," Trump said. "If they did, the Middle East would have been wiped out by now,” he further added. Trump also claimed that while Iran has suffered heavy military losses, it still has some remaining capabilities. "They have no navy, they have no air force, they have no anti-aircraft. Doesn't mean they don't have any capability. They have some, but very little," he said.
When asked if the US had already stepped up its military campaign, Trump said, "We've already gone big…They had 159 ships. That was their entire Navy, 159. Their entire Navy is laying at the bottom of the sea. I'd say that's going big. They had 200 airplanes, they're all gone, every one of them."
Trump On Talks With Iran
While diplomatic contacts between Washington and Tehran are continuing, Trump said he was losing confidence in Iran. "I guess you can. I mean, I'm losing faith in them because they do lie and do they do misrepresent," he said when asked whether a diplomatic agreement remained possible. Trump also claimed that negotiations were disrupted after Iran launched missiles during the talks.
