Iran-US Tensions: Explosions were reported near Iran’s Kharg Island in the Gulf on Saturday, with the cause still unclear, according to Iranian media. State-affiliated Iranian news outlet Nournews reported that local sources had shared unconfirmed reports that an Iranian tanker near Kharg Island was targeted by a missile fired by US forces. The report did not provide further details about the tanker or the alleged attack.

Kharg Island Rocked By Explosions

News agency Reuters, citing a Fars correspondent reported that while explosions were heard from the Gulf, there were no visible sign of smoke. Iranian authorities have not immediately issued any official statement confirming the incident. The reports come as tensions between Iran and the United States have intensified, with fighting entering a renewed phase.

Trump's Fresh Warning To Iran

Earlier on Friday (local time), US President Donald Trump had warned that the US could strike Iran’s Pickaxe Mountain “very soon.” He reiterated that the main goal of the campaign was to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon. “We’re in five months now. And you know what we did in five months? They’re not going to have a nuclear weapon, that’s what we did,” Trump said.

Iran-US Tensions Escalate

The conflict between Iran and the US has entered a new phase, with both sides resuming attacks against each other. On Tuesday, the US carried out a major military operation around the Strait of Hormuz, striking nearly 60 Iranian military targets and providing armed protection to 40 commercial vessels carrying around 18 million barrels of oil.

At the same time, Iranian officials said the latest US strikes have caused civilian casualties. Iran's Health Minister Mohammad-Reza Zafarghandi on Wednesday said 18 people were killed and 108 others wounded in overnight US strikes against Iran. Iran's Foreign Ministry had strongly condemned the US strikes, calling them "acts of aggression" and saying the country would defend its independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Iran also responded to the attacks by targeting American bases and assets in several locations across the region. Iranian attacks targeted US bases and assets in Jordan, Kuwait, Bahrain, Iraq's semi-autonomous Kurdistan region and the United Arab Emirates on Wednesday.
