Iran-US Tensions: Tensions in West Asia have again increased as Iran and the United States continue to exchange military strikes. Iran on Friday claimed that it damaged American fighter jets and other military aircraft after launching a missile and drone attack on the US-operated Al-Azraq air base in Jordan. The attack came as Washington carried out another round of strikes on Iranian military targets.

Iran Claims Attack On US Base In Jordan

According to Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), it launched a missile and drone attack on the US-operated air base in eastern Jordan. Iranian state media, citing IRGC, claimed that the attack damaged several US military aircraft, including F-16 and F-35 fighter jets, tanker aircraft and military drones. Iran said some of the aircraft were destroyed, while others were seriously damaged. However, the US has not confirmed these claims so far.

US Continues Strikes On Iran

The latest Iranian attack came after the US carried out another night of airstrikes on military sites in southern Iran. The US Central Command (CENTCOM) said its forces targeted military facilities on Qeshm Island, near Bandar Abbas, and other locations linked to Iran's military and Revolutionary Guards. In an official statement, the CENTCOM said, “U.S. forces, including fighter jets, aerial drones, and warships, launched precision munitions that hit dozens of Iranian military targets such as coastal surveillance and air defense sites, military logistics infrastructure, and maritime capabilities. This was the sixth consecutive night of U.S. strikes against Iran.”

Iran Expands Attacks Across The Region

Meanwhile, Iran also responded to US attacks, saying it launched missile and drone attacks on American military facilities in Bahrain and Kuwait. Iranian state media also claimed the country carried out its first direct attack on the US special operations command centre at al-Tanf in Syria. Tehran said the strike was in response to the killing of Iranian soldiers in Iranshahr.

According to Iran’s state news agency IRNA, the IRGC also targeted the US military’s Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar as part of its latest response to American strikes.
