The Embassy of India in Kuwait has confirmed the death of an Indian national following an attack on Kuwait International Airport on Wednesday. The attack took place when drones and missiles targeted the passenger terminal (T1) at the airport early in the morning, seriously injured dozens of people.

Indian National Killed In Kuwait Airport Attack

In a post on X, the embassy expressed deep condolences and said it is in touch with the victim’s family, while coordinating with Kuwaiti authorities to provide all possible support to both the family and the injured. “Embassy of India in Kuwait expresses its deepest condolences at the tragic demise of an Indian national due to an attack on the airport in Kuwait today. The Embassy is in touch with the bereaved family and is closely coordinating with the Kuwaiti authorities to render all possible support and assistance to the bereaved family as well as those injured in the incident,” the embassy stated.

Airspace Shut After Drone Strikes

Earlier, Kuwait’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly condemned the “brutal Iranian attacks,” saying civilian and vital facilities, including the airport, were targetted. It said the attack resulted in one death, several injuries, and damage to key infrastructure, including diplomatic missions. The ministry also said the strikes violate international law and UN resolutions and warned that such actions increase tensions and threaten regional stability.

Meanwhile, Kuwait has temporarily closed its airspace following the attack. Posting on X, Kuwait Civil Aviation said that all air traffic has been suspended and flights are being diverted to alternative airports. India’s airline, IndiGo has also suspended all its flights to and from Kuwait until 12:00 pm on June 4, as a precautionary measure due to the situation.

IndiGo Issues Advisory

In a post on X, IndiGo announced that the decision was taken with the safety of passengers and crew in mind. The airline stated that it is closely monitoring the situation and prioritising passenger safety amid the ongoing developments. “We understand the impact this may cause to your travel plans and sincerely regret the inconvenience. Please be assured that this precautionary measure has been taken with the safety and well-being of our customers and crew as our highest priority,” the airline stated in its advisory.

IndiGo has further urged passengers to check the status of their flights before heading to the airport. Affected passengers have also been offered the option of rebooking or receiving a full refund. “We remain in close coordination with the relevant aviation authorities and are continuously monitoring the situation. Flight services will resume as soon as conditions permit and safe operating corridors become available,” the statement added.
