An Indian national has been charged in the United States in connection with a fatal high-speed crash in Ohio that killed his pregnant teenage partner and her unborn child. The victim's family has also called for his deportation following the conclusion of the criminal case.
Indian Man Faces Charges In Ohio Crash
According to Newsweek report, citing authorities, 17-year-old Ashlee Holmes was a passenger in a Range Rover Velar on February 16 when the vehicle failed to stop for law enforcement officers. Police said the driver, identified as 33-year-old Tarsem Singh, led officers on a high-speed pursuit before losing control of the vehicle.
Here's What Happened
The Ohio State Highway Patrol reported that the SUV was initially recorded traveling at 79 mph in a 55-mph zone before accelerating to more than 120 mph during the chase. Investigators said the vehicle failed to negotiate a curve, crossed into oncoming traffic, struck a Jeep, and overturned several times.

Ashlee Holmes was ejected from the vehicle during the crash and suffered fatal injuries. Her unborn child also died because of the accident. A Darke County grand jury has formally charged Singh with several serious crimes, including involuntary manslaughter, reckless homicide, and aggravated vehicular homicide in connection with the fatal crash.
He is currently being held on a bond of USD 1 million and remains presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court. According to the US Department of Homeland Security, Singh entered the US illegally through the southern border in California in February 2017. He was later released on bond following a court hearing. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has since lodged a detainer against him, meaning he could face deportation proceedings after the criminal case is resolved.
Mother Calls For Deportation
A jury trial is scheduled to take place from August 17 to August 21. Members of Holmes' family told Newsweek that Singh was the father of the unborn child. They also alleged that Ashlee had attempted to leave the relationship several times but was unable to do so. Speaking to Newsweek, Ashlee's mother, Annette Holmes, said she supports Singh's deportation.
Nobody should ever deserve to die while pregnant with their first kid,” she said. Annette added, "I'm OK with him being kicked out of the country permanently. We came to find out he came here illegally at first. They can send him wherever he is best off because I don't want him in the States no more."
