'She Called The Police': Indian Creator Alleges He Faced Racism At Japan Store After Revealing His Nationality | Video

An Indian content creator has alleged that he was subjected to racist treatment and harassment at a 7-Eleven convenience store in Japan's Shizuoka Prefecture. The incident has sparked a heated debate on social media regarding the treatment of foreign visitors and racial prejudice in the country.

Indian Creator Faces Racism At Japan 7-Eleven Store

The creator, named Anant M, shared a video on Instagram, detailing the incident that took place on the last day of his Japan trip. According to him, the confrontation began when he asked a Nepali store employee to reheat his food. The employee agreed to help and began reheating his food, but a woman identified as the store owner rushed over, began shouting, and aggressively questioned his nationality.

He alleged that the moment he told he was from India, the owner called the authorities and accused the traveler of misconduct. "I said, 'I'm from India,' and then she called the police," Anant was heard saying in the video. The Japanese police officers arrived there within minutes, who then reviewed the situation and determined he had done nothing wrong. Anant noted that he had recorded the entire interaction on his phone, prompting him to ask the responding officers to review the footage before taking any action.

Thanks Japanese Police

According to him, the Japanese police treated him respectfully and reprimanded the store owner for his actions. Sharing the video, he wrote in the caption: “Thanks to Japan Police. It was my last day in Shizuka, Japan. While I was in a 7-11, I requested the staff to reheat my food for which he agreed. But later the store owner shouted at me and made racist reactions. Later, she called the police against me, but nothing turned opposite, and the police scolded her and let me go with respect and an apology.”

Indians are increasingly becoming targets of hostility. Several studies also suggest that anti-Indian sentiment online has multiplied. Social media attacks frequently accuse Indians of "stealing American jobs," particularly during policy debates surrounding skilled-worker visa programs such as the H-1B.
