- US and Iran reportedly moving towards a peace framework.
- Draft MoU outlines five key proposals to reduce tensions.
- Proposals include Hormuz, sanctions, nuclear, US military presence.
After weeks of military escalation, the United States and Iran are reportedly moving toward a peace agreement. The report came after US President Donald Trump on Friday announced that the US has “ended the war with Iran.” He described the development as a “very strong memorandum of understanding,” suggesting that a broad diplomatic framework has been reached between Washington and Tehran.
US And Iran Move Toward Possible Peace Framework
According to reports cited by various news outlets, negotiators have drafted a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that could serve as a temporary framework to reduce tensions and open the door for a broader peace deal. Trump also indicated that the agreement is aimed at moving toward a structured peace process and opening the Strait of Hormuz.
However, the proposed deal is not a full peace agreement but an interim arrangement. The deal aims at stabilising the region, protecting global oil supply routes, and restarting formal negotiations between Washington and Tehran. Reports suggest that the memorandum could be signed on Sunday in Geneva, Switzerland. However, some sources also mention Vienna as a possible venue.

MoU To Be Signed In Geneva?
A diplomatic source told CNN that both sides have agreed on the text of the MoU, but it still requires final approval before signing. The agreement is expected to be signed by US Vice President JD Vance while Trump may not attend personally. Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad-Bagher Ghalibaf is expected to sign the agreement from Tehran’s side.
What Are The Five Key Proposals US-Iran Draft Deal?
According to multiple reports, the draft memorandum includes five major provisions:
1. Reopening of the Strait of Hormuz
The draft states that Iran would agree to fully reopen the Strait of Hormuz within 30 days and allow the free movement of global shipping without restrictions or tolls. The reopening is seen as a major US priority, as the strait is a key global oil route.
2. US sanctions relief
In return, the US would begin easing some sanctions on Iran, especially oil-related restrictions. This will allow Iran to increase exports and access global financial systems. However, details remain unclear as of now.
3. Extension of ceasefire by 60 days
The draft adds that both sides would extend the current ceasefire for another 60 days, giving space for further negotiations and reducing the risk of renewed fighting in the region.
4. Nuclear-related commitments from Iran
The proposed memorandum also includes one of the most sticking issues in US-Iran negotiations, Iran’s nuclear programme. According to the Axios report, Iran would agree not to pursue nuclear weapons and would begin discussions on its enriched uranium stockpile. However, key technical issues like inspections and enrichment levels would still need future talks.
5. Reduced US military presence near Iran
According to Bloomberg, one of the key concessions being discussed in the draft agreement is a possible US commitment to withdraw some military forces and assets from areas near Iran. If this is agreed upon, it would mark a significant shift in US’ regional military positioning.
What Iran Is Saying?
Meanwhile, Iran has rejected claims that a final agreement has been reached. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei said reports of a deal are “merely speculation” and confirmed that no final decision has been made. Iran’s state news agency IRNA said that under the proposed MoU with the US, Tehran would make no commitment regarding the transfer or sharing of control over the management of the Hormuz.
It further added that no agreement has been reached on the nuclear issue in the current memorandum of understanding.
