United States President Donald Trump on Wednesday claimed that China is “very happy” with his decision regarding the Strait of Hormuz. He said that Beijing has agreed not to send weapons to Iran and suggested that Chinese President Xi Jinping would welcome him warmly during their upcoming meeting. The development follows China’s warning to the US over its military blockade in the strait following the collapse of Washington-Tehran peace talks in Islamabad.

Trump Hints At Cooperation On Iran Issue

In a post on Truth Social, Trump asserted that the move of “permanently opening” the Strait of Hormuz is aimed at benefiting both China and the wider world. He added that such a situation “will never happen again.” Trump also highlighted cooperation between the two countries, claiming that China has agreed to not supply arms to Iran amid ongoing conflict.

Trump further emphasised that Washington and Beijing were “working together smartly” and in a positive direction. However, he added a warning that the US remains fully prepared for confrontation if necessary, stating that it is “very good at fighting.”

“China is very happy that I am permanently opening the Strait of Hormuz. I am doing it for them, also - And the World. This situation will never happen again. They have agreed not to send weapons to Iran. President Xi will give me a big, fat, hug when I get there in a few weeks. We are working together smartly, and very well! Doesn’t that beat fighting??? BUT REMEMBER, we are very good at fighting, if we have to - far better than anyone else,” Trump wrote.

Xi's Four-Point Proposal

Earlier on Tuesday, President Xi Jinping proposed a four-point roadmap for lasting peace in the Middle East. The proposal was made during his meeting with the UAE Crown Prince Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. His four-point proposal includes upholding the principle of peaceful coexistence, adhering to national sovereignty, coordinating development with security, and safeguarding the international rule-based order.

According to Chinese state news agency Xinhua, Xi said, "Safeguard the authority of the international rule of law. It can’t be 'use it when it suits us, discard it when it doesn't,' and we cannot allow the world to revert to the law of the jungle."
