A security incident happened near the White House on Tuesday, and one person was arrested. This took place at the same time as the visit of King Charles III and Queen Camilla to Washington, DC. Security in the area was already very tight because of a shooting that happened a few days earlier during the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.

Suspect Held Near White House 

According to a Fox News report, a person was arrested near the White House after getting past a security checkpoint close to The Ellipse (President’s Park South). The US Secret Service said the person was taken into custody, and criminal charges may be filed soon. Officials have not yet shared who the person is or why they did this. It is also not clear if the person had any weapons.

At the same time, security was very strict due to the visit of the British Royals. The Secret Service said they were fully prepared and working all the time to keep everyone safe during the visit. In a post on X, the agency wrote, “State visits don't stay safe by accident. The Secret Service was on-site every moment of King Charles III's arrival ceremony at the White House today, securing the facilities and keeping everyone safe.”

WHCD Shooting

The royal visit happened shortly after a shooting at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, held at the Washington Hilton Hotel on Saturday. During that incident, President Donald Trump was quickly taken away by security along with First Lady Melania Trump, Vice President JD Vance and other officials.

The suspect, 31-year-old Cole Tomas Allen has been charged with attempting to assassinate Trump. According to US Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche, the suspect managed to fire "a couple shots" before being stopped.

Earlier on Monday, Trump had described the suspect as a "radicalised" and "sick" individual. Speaking to CBS News, he said, “I read a manifesto... he's radicalised. He was a Christian believer, and then he became an anti-Christian... His family was very concerned. He was probably a pretty sick guy.” Meanwhile, authorities are still investigating both incidents.
