An LPG tanker carrying 28 Indian crew members came under attack in Iranian waters on Friday amid growing tensions between the United States and Iran. However, the Indian Embassy in Iran confirmed that all 28 crew members are safe and that they are in close contact with relevant authorities.

Indian Embassy Confirms Attack On Mozambique-Flagged LPG Tanker DISHA

In a statement on X (formerly Twitter), the Embassy of India in Tehran confirmed that the Mozambique-flagged LPG tanker DISHA came under attack in Iranian waters earlier today.

"The Embassy of India in Tehran is aware that the Mozambique-flagged LPG tanker DISHA came under attack in Iranian territorial waters earlier today. The vessel has 28 Indian crew members on board. The Embassy has been in close contact with the relevant authorities and has confirmed that all Indian crew members are safe," the Embassy wrote.

While the embassy reaffirmed that it continues to monitor the situation closely and that it remains in touch with the concerned authorities, officials did not provide details regarding the nature of the attack, how the incident occurred, or the condition of the vessel.

The attack comes as External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Thursday warned that "under no circumstances can attacks on seafarers, civilian shipping or infrastructure be countenanced."

India has repeatedly asserted that deliberate strikes on non-military vessels, maritime crew members, and critical infrastructure are entirely unacceptable.

"India stresses that international waterways must remain safe and unimpeded, fully in consonance with international law," Jaishankar said, adding that "under no circumstances can attacks on seafarers, civilian shipping or infrastructure be countenanced."

Indian Crew Member Killed After Cargo Ship Comes Under Attack In Black Sea

In a separate development on Friday, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirmed that an Indian national was killed after a commercial vessel carrying 10 crew members came under attack in the Black Sea near Russia last Saturday. The incident took place on July 18, while the vessel MV OMORFI was reportedly transiting through Russian territorial waters. The other two Indian nationals on board have been reported safe.

In a statement, the MEA extended condolences to the bereaved family, adding that the Indian Mission in Russia has contacted relevant authorities and is working to provide all possible assistance to the affected family. "It has come to our attention that on 18 July 2026, the commercial vessel MV OMORFI was attacked while transiting the Black Sea, reportedly in Russian territorial waters. At the time of the incident, there were ten crew members on board, including three Indian nationals," the statement noted.

"As per available information, one Indian national tragically lost his life in the attack. We extend our deepest condolences to the bereaved family of the deceased. The other two Indian nationals on board are reported to be safe," the MEA added.
