Construction of the Noida International Airport has been completed, and its inauguration is expected shortly. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the airport.

In its initial phase, the airport is set to operate domestic and cargo flights. However, a dedicated 30-metre-wide corridor for cargo movement from Delhi-NCR and nearby districts is still under construction.

As the main cargo corridor is yet to be fully completed, a temporary route is being developed from the old Jewar-Bulandshahr Road to the airport’s cargo village to ensure smooth movement of shipments.

The Yamuna Authority has assigned the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) the task of constructing an 8.25-kilometre-long, four-lane, 30-metre-wide road. The project, estimated at Rs 178 crore, will connect the northern and eastern ends of the cargo terminal directly to the Yamuna Expressway, ensuring seamless access to the cargo village.

According to NHAI officials, most of the road construction has been completed. Minor works related to dividers, side railings and culverts are still pending but are being expedited.

Officials said initial delays were caused by land acquisition challenges and the removal of illegal encroachments along certain stretches.

Once completed, likely by March, the corridor will offer direct connectivity to major road networks, including the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, the Eastern Peripheral Expressway (EPE), and the upcoming Ganga Expressway. This will enable smoother cargo movement from Mumbai to Agra, Mathura, Delhi-NCR, and further to Meerut and Uttarakhand.

Notably, the Noida International Airport will become the first airport in the country to provide dedicated corridor connectivity to its cargo village.

Shailendra Bhatia, Nodal Officer of Noida International Airport Limited, said that NHAI is working at a fast pace to complete the 30-metre-wide road. Until then, temporary connectivity is being facilitated through the old Jewar-Bulandshahr Road.
